Día 8 / Day 8

Phuket, 16 de Septiembre de 2011, Paseo en elefante.

Ultimo día en Tailandia por ahora, tomamos un desayuno/almuerzo y mientras Meli ponía sus pies en una pileta llena de peces para que le hicieran una especie de exfoliación o algo así que nunca supo pero que le resulto divertido, yo me fui a sacar fotos por los alrededores. Luego fuimos a visitar el gran Buda donde también hicimos un paseo en elefante, bastante extraño estar ahí arriba por cierto. En el momento no me di cuenta pero luego reflexionando entendí que habíamos paseado en un elefante esclavo, dado que el animal perdió su libertad y ahora trabaja para unos Tailandeses a cambio de nada, porque encima comen lo que encuentran en el camino, y además nos intentaron vender artesanías hechas a partir de los colmillos que le habían sacado. No quiero ser hipócrita porque en definitiva cuando te comes una hamburguesa pasa lo mismo con las vacas solo que no las ves, o también lo mismo cuando paseas a caballo pero en estos casos los animales son criados con dicho fin y el elefante no. La foto fue antes de haberme dado cuenta de todo esto obvio.

Phuket, September 16th 2011, Elephant ridding.

Our last day in Thailand so far, we had a brunch and Meli decided to put her feet into a pool with fishes in order to get a scrub or something like that, of course she never knew about the result but it was funny she told me, meanwhile I was taking pictures around the neighborhood. After that we went to visit the big Buddha and we took a ride on elephant, it was pretty weird to be up there by the way. I didn’t realize at that moment but later thinking about it, I realized we were ridding a slave elephant, it lost its freedom and it’s working unpaid for a couple of Thai People, because they eat whatever they found on the road, in addition they tried to sell crafts coming from the elephant teeth. I don’t want to be hypocrite because when we eat hamburgers it’s similar except we don’t see the cow or even when we ride horses, but these last two are raised with that purpose and the elephant is not. Of course the pictures was took before to realize all these things.
